Onion import duty withdrawn

In an effort to keep onion prices affordable, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has withdrawn the customs duty and regulatory duty on onion imports.

NBR issued a notification in this regard on Wednesday (November 6).

On the other hand, the Central Bank has given a discount on the placement of loan documents to import of onions.

According to the NBR, the total duty on onion imports has been reduced from 10% to 0%. This means no import taxes will be applied to onion imports, effective immediately. As a result, the onion supply in the market will increase.
