Lease of 24 private trains cancelled

Bangladesh Railway has cancelled the lease contract with several private companies for operating 24 trains.
The companies have been informed that the contract has been cancelled for breaching conditions.
Bangladesh Railway Director for Public Relations Md Nahid Hasan Khan confirmed the matter on Tuesday (November 12).
A former Chhatra League leader named Salauddin Ripon signed a contract to operate the trains through his four family businesses.
The initial contract had a four-year term, but Salauddin managed to renew the contract repeatedly for over a decade, leaving out competitive bidders in every renewal step – thanks to his alleged deep ties with the Awami League government and the power of bribes.
