SP Mohiuddin Farooqui put on 2-day remand in murder case

A Dhaka court granted a two-day remand for former company commander of RAB-2 SP Mohiuddin Farooqui in the case filed over the murder of Zobayer Omar Khan in the capital’s Jatrabari area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the remand order after hearing on Wednesday (November 13).

SP Farooqui was produced before the court as Sub-Inspector of Jatrabari Police Station Rasel Sarder, also the investigating officer of the case, pleaded to place him on seven-day remand in the case. His counsel, however, argued for his bail.

According to the case statements, Zobayer Omar Khan on information of Hasina’s escape to India tried to join liberation rally in Shahbagh on the noon of August 5. As he along with many others, reached Shanir Akhra area, police pounced on them, firing live bullets, tear shells, sound grenades and others. Many people, including Zobayer got injured in the attack.

As people rushed him to Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, the attending doctors declared him dead.

Zobayer’s brother Zabed Imran Khan filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on August 22 against 127 including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
