A letter has been sent to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take an action regarding the issuance of a red notice through Interpol to arrest former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in connection with an International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) case. If Interpol takes an action in response to the request to issue a red alert; if the government’s department wants, the Foreign Ministry will contact India through diplomatic channels.
Director General of the Public Diplomacy Wing Toufique Hasan, also spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said this while addressing a weekly press conference held at the ministry office in Dhaka on Thursday.
He said, “It is a political matter. If a red alert is issued, if any department concerned says so, we can take an action in this regard. However, so far, we have not received any such matter.”
“Sheikh Hasina has been making statements in the Indian mass media, but the interim government strongly disapproves of it. India government has also been requested multiple-time in this regard,” he said.
“Since fleeing the country on August 5, the former prime minister has been residing in India and has been issuing political statements continuously from there. We have conveyed our government's discontent over the issue to the Indian High Commissioner (in Dhaka)”, he said.
The Indian High Commissioner assured that he would relay the message to his government, he added.
