Attempt to kill Khaleda: Ex-MP Tipu sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent to jail former Barishal-3 lawmaker Golam Kibria Tipu in a case lodged for attacking motorcade of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in a bid to kill her in 2018 in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman passed the order on Friday.
Earlier, police produced Tipu before the court and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the completion of probe.
Police arrested the former lawmaker from South Keraniganj area on November 14.
According to the case documents, BNP chairperson's motorcade came under attack as she was traveling from her Gulshan house to Bakshibazar special court on February 8, 2018. Several vehicles were vandalized, many people including Khaleda Zia's security personnel and party activists got injured in the attack.
People's Party Chairman Babul Sardar Chakhari filed the case with Hatirjheel Police Station on November 8, 2024, against 65 people, including Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader.
