Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul has said that the national election will be held as soon as possible.
The adviser said this while responding to a question of a journalist marking the ministry’s achievements in his first 100 days in office on Tuesday.
“We will conduct the national election as soon as possible after making some of the most essential reforms. We do not want a repeat of a fake election like before, nor do we want anyone to win and then have the opportunity to conduct another sham election,” he said.
“We believe that most of us in the interim government are eager to return to our respective professions as soon as possible. There has been no talk of four years”, he added.
Regarding the movement of Titumir College students, the law adviser said, “Anyone can have a different opinion. But if the protesters continue to block roads, put common people in suffering, hold people hostage, create unbearable traffic jams, I think the people should resist. You can protest, but you cannot hold people hostage. Yesterday, women and children were injured by throwing bricks on a train. What kind of movement is this”, he said.
It is not possible to convert a college into a university overnight. I think the public opinion is becoming very strong against such harassment and movement, he said.
