The government has appointed Baharul Alam as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Sheikh Sazzad Ali has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Ministry of Home Affairs informed it through separate circulars on Wednesday (November 20) afternoon.
Baharul Alam, former chief of the Special Branch (SB) of Police, has been appointed as the 33rd IGP.
He served as the police liaison officer at the Peacekeeping Department of the United Nations Headquarters from 2009 to 2013.
He also served as Senior Police Adviser at the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Afghanistan in 2015.
Baharul Alam served in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leone. Deprived of promotions twice, Baharul Alam was sent on retirement in 2020.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Moinul Hasan was removed from his position.
