We will do everything to hold free, fair, credible election: New CEC

Newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin has said the Election Commission (EC) will do everything in a bid to hold a free, fair and acceptable national election.

He said this while taking to newsmen on Thursday in his immediate reaction following his appointment.

“Since this responsibility has landed on our shoulders, we must fulfil it properly with everyone’s cooperation”, he said.

About the Awami League’s participation, Nasir Uddin said, “There is a debate about this. Nothing can be said in advance. Everyone will see when the time comes”.

He said he will work independently and their ultimate goal is to establish the people's right to vote.

Earlier, former Secretary AMM Nasir Uddin was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday saying it will come to effect immediately.
