Battery-operated auto-rickshaw drivers threaten tougher programmes

On Tuesday (November 19), a High Court bench directed the authority concerned to stop the operation of battery-operated rickshaws in the Dhaka city within the next three days. 

From that time, auto-rickshaw drivers have been staging demonstration by blocking railway tracks and roads and some other programmes. 

On Saturday (November 22), two organizations of the drivers separately threatened tougher programmes including a seven-day ultimatum. 

At a demonstration in front of the National Press Club, Rickshaw, Battery-operated Auto-Rickshaw, Van and Easy Bike Sangram Parishad gave a seven-day ultimatum.

Convener of the association Khalekuzzaman Lipon said if the High Court directive is not reconsidered within seven days, they will announce tougher programmes.

Rickshaw, Van and Easy Bike Sramik Union also held a press conference at Mukti Bhaban in the capital’s Paltan on Saturday.

Central Joint Secretary Ariful Islam Nadim threatened tougher programmes from the press conference if their demands are not met.
