Direct presidential election, some other recommends placed 

The Election Reform Commission has proposed several recommendations, including a direct presidential election, canceling the system of elected unopposed and reintroducing the no-vote system.

Chief of Election Reform Commission Badiul Alam Majumder disclosed this at a meeting with senior journalists of electronic media and editors at the Election Bhaban at Agargaon in the capital on Saturday (November 23).

Many stakeholders recommended a direct presidential election, all elections should be direct and non-partisan local body elections, he said.

The issue of using technologies, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the election was also discussed during the meeting, he said.

At the meeting, another member of the commission, Tofail Ahmed, said, “Local government elections should not be held before the national election. If local elections are held without completing the reforms, the reforms will be delayed.” 

At this time, editors and senior journalists expressed their opinions on challenges and Election Commission reforms in the light of the past three national parliamentary elections and local government elections.
