Ban on battery-run rickshaws:
State files plea seeking stay on HC order

The state has filed a petition with the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court seeking stay on a High Court order that asked to take steps to ban battery-operated rickshaws in Dhaka metropolitan areas.
The petition was filed with the concerned wing of the appellate division on Monday (November 25), said Deputy Attorney General Nur Muhammad Azmi.
Earlier on November 19, the High Court ordered authorities concerned to stop the operation of battery-powered rickshaws on the streets of the Dhaka metropolitan area within three days.
The court also issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why their failure to halt the operation of these vehicles should not be declared illegal.
