Garment workers will get TCB products 

Considering the market situation and the ready-made garment industry’ contribution, over 10 lakh families of garment workers will be provided with essentials at subsidized prices through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB). 

In addition to the one crore families holding the TCB family cards, another 10 lakh garment workers are joining this service. 

The government will sell TCB products at subsidized prices to these families. 

The advisory council committee on government purchases took the decision at a meeting presided over by Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed on Wednesday.

After the meeting, the finance adviser told reporters the government has been prioritising purchasing essential items-sugar, lentils, and edible oil- to sell to low-income groups.

He also said there has been comfort to some extent in the commodity price situation.

As per one proposal, the government will purchase 55 lakh litres of soybean oil at a total cost of Tk 91.3 crore, according to a finance ministry statement.

Besides, the committee approved a proposal of purchasing 20,000 tonnes of sugar at a total cost of Tk 232.7 crore.
