There is an allegation that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) was involved in incidents of disappearances and killings, including the infamous seven murders in Narayanganj.
Director General of RAB AKM Shahidur Rahman publicly apologized for the incidents at a press briefing at RAB Media Centre at Karwan Bazar on Thursday.
Since its formation, we apologize to the people who have been tortured and harmed by its members, and to the victims’ families, he said.
He expressed his regret and apologized at a press conference at the RAB's media center in Karwan Bazar in the capital on Thursday (December 12) afternoon.
“We won't again involve in any killing or enforced disappearance at anyone's directive as these are the criminal offenses,” he said.
The RAB chief also warned of taking tougher legal actions if any force members are involved in such crimes.
About the firing gunshots from the RAB helicopters during the anti-discrimination student movement, he said that the matter is now on trial at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) and the real fact will come out through proper investigation.
