Poet Helal Hafiz’s burial with state honour

Famous poet Helal Hafiz has been laid to eternal rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in the capital’s Mirpur.
He was buried with state honour on the left side of the main gate of the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard at around 3 pm on Saturday (December 14).
The first namaz-e-janaza of poet Helal Hafiz was held on Bangla Academy premises in the morning and the second was held at the National Press Club in the afternoon.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep shock at the death of poet Helal Hafiz.
In a condolence message, Prof Yunus said the death of poet Helal Hafiz, a poet of rebellion and love, is an irreparable loss to the Bangla language and literature.
He sought eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Country’s renowned poet Helal Hafiz passed away on Friday.
He was 76 years.
He was brought dead to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital at around 2:30 pm on Friday, said hospital's Director Brigadier General Md. Rezaur Rahman.
He was suffering from glaucoma for a long time. He was also suffering from kidney, diabetes and nerve complications.
Poet Helal Hafiz was born on October 7, 1948 in Netrokona. His first book of poems, ‘Je Jale Agun Jwale (The water where fire is ignited) was published in 1986. So far, the book has been printed more than 33 times.
In addition to writing, he worked as a journalist for various newspapers including the Daily Jugantar for a long time.
After publishing his first poetry collection ‘Je Jale Agun Jwale’ in 1986, the poet reached the peak of popularity.
