The interim government will not interfere even an inch with the freedom of press.
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said this at a discussion titled ‘the Role of Media in Building New Bangladesh’ organized by MASTUL Foundation, a non-profit charity organisation, at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Saturday.
Shafiqul Alam said, “The job of the interim government is to ensure freedom of press and speech. We will not interfere with anyone's freedom even an inch. Such freedom has never been seen in the history of Bangladesh."
He said, “No one can say that we have interfered with in a news story. Many people say that lawsuits are happening in our time, but go and see if any of us are involved in it.”
Apart from liability of the government and security agencies, he said the media owners also could not avoid the responsibility for casualties of journalists in gathering news since they do not provide safety equipment for their newsmen. The photographers and video journalists cover hostile environment or events really putting their lives at risk, he said.
