Bail of ex-state minister Mahbub Ali stayed

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order that granted bail to former state minister for aviation, Mahbub Ali, in a case filed over the murder of one Siam Sardar under Dhaka’s Mirpur police station.
The court also directed the High Court to dispose of the rule regarding his bail within a month.
A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Senior Justice Ashfaqul Islam, passed the order on Tuesday (December 17).
On December 10, High Court granted him bail. However, the state appealed to the Chamber Judge’s Court to stay the bail. On December 12, the Chamber Judge’s Court stayed the bail granted by the High Court to Mahbub Ali.
On September 15, former state minister for aviation Mahbub Ali was arrested from Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area and the court ordered him to be sent to jail the following day.
According to the case details, Siam Sardar, an employee of Hotel Rabbani in Dhaka’s Mirpur area, was injured by gunfire near Mirpur-10 on July 18 while returning home after duty. Later, he died.
On September 12, Siam’s father, Sohag Sardar, filed a murder case with the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
The court recorded the plaintiff’s statement and instructed Mirpur police station to register it as a First Information Report (FIR).
The case listed 114 individuals as accused.
