Rallies, processions banned in areas adjacent to Ijtema ground

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a ban on all forms of rallies, processions, demonstrations, and gatherings following a fatal clash between the followers of Jobayer and Saad factions over control of the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter on Wednesday (December 18).

The ban on all forms of rallies, processions, demonstrations, and gatherings has been enforced at Kamarpura, Abdullahpur, Uttara Sector-10, and adjacent areas along the southern and western banks of the Turag River, according to a public notification issued by DMP.

The restriction, effective from 2 pm Wednesday, will remain in place until further notice, the notification said.
