An application has been filed with Interpol to issue a red notice against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of crimes against humanity and genocide during the July-August mass uprising.

Chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Tajul Islam gave this information on Sunday (December 22).

Tajul Islam said, “We have filed an application with Interpol to issue red notice to arrest prime minister Sheikh Hasina. The Ministry of Home Affairs can say whether red notice has been issued or not.”

On November 10, the chief prosecutor sent a letter to the inspector general of police (IGP), requesting action to issue a red notice through Interpol to arrest Sheikh Hasina and fugitive Awami League leaders who fled to India in the International Crimes Tribunal case.

On October 17, the International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, among 46 others, in separate cases alleging genocide and crimes against humanity committed in July-August.

Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India on August 5 in the face of a mass uprising by students and the public against discrimination.
