‘Investigation to confirm if Secretariat fire was sabotage’

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said only an in-depth investigation will confirm whether the fire at the Secretariat building was an act of sabotage or an accident.

The adviser said this while addressing reporters after inspecting the secretariat on Thursday morning (December 26).

Meanwhile, in reply to a question, he said it is too early to say if this was a conspiracy or sabotage. We will only know after the investigation is completed.

Accidents can happen anywhere, which is why they are termed as such. The fire service is stationed within the Secretariat as a precaution for such occurrences, he added.

The Home Affairs Adviser also said, "One of our firefighters was killed following this incident. He lost his life in a road accident. Besides, two others were injured."
