Election Reform Commission Chairman Badiul Alam Majumder has said that those who committed election crimes in the country’s past elections should be tried.
He made the comments in response to questions from journalists at the conference room of the Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday (December 26) afternoon.
Badiul Alam Majumder said, “Those who committed election crimes, made the elections controversial should definitely be brought to justice. Those who committed wrongdoing should be punished through impartial trials. I think it is logical”.
“Our system has broken. The system needs to be changed. Only then will the election system be effective. Many such proposals came up in the exchange of views. The Election Commission needs to be strengthened, expatriates must be included in the voter list, we must hold fair elections, then the people's opinions will be reflected”, he said.
Earlier, a meeting on electoral reform was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office. Former Additional Secretary of the Election Commission Jasmine Tuli, governance and institutional reform expert Mir Nadia Nivin, Divisional Commissioner Khondaker Azim Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar and others were present at the meeting.
