Mobile courts to conduct drives against fireworks on Dec 31st night

The Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change will conduct mobile courts against the bursting of fireworks, firecrackers and release of lanterns on December 31st night during the New Year celebrations.

The ministry issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

According to the notification, fireworks and crackers create noise and air pollution while excessive noise pollution increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and mental stress. In addition, releasing lanterns causes fires and loss of biodiversity, it added.

These activities are punishable offences according to the Noise Pollution (Control) Rules, 2006, violation of the law for the first time can be punished with one month in jail or a fine of Tk. 5,000 or both, while repeated offenses can be punished with six months in jail or a fine of Tk. 10,000 or both, it said.
