‘Proclamation of July Uprising must be declared by January 15’

The ‘Proclamation of the July Uprising’ must be declared by the interim government by January 15.

Member Secretary of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee Akhtar Hossain demanded of the government while addressing the ‘March for Unity’ program called by the Students Against Discrimination at the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday.

Akhtar Hossain said, “The people of this country want a new Bangladesh. The people of Bangladesh want a new constitution. The people want reforms. Leaders of the Students Against Discrimination said that they would announce ‘Proclamation of the July Uprising’.  Then the interim government said they would declare it in coordination with all political parties. This declaration is a victory for the anti-discrimination student movement. I would like to tell the interim government that the declaration of the July Uprising must be read by January 15.”

A large gathering of students gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar to participate in the 'March for Unity' program. 

Students and the public from various districts and upazilas of the country including Dhaka gathered there in separate processions.

During visit to the area at around 3:00pm, it was seen both students and people from different places are thronging the Central Shaheed Minar and its adjoining areas.  The Dhaka University area has turned into a human sea.

Students, chanting various slogans against autocracy, arrived in a procession carrying banners.
