A Dhaka court has directed the police to interrogate Awami League (AL) leader Balaram Poddar at jail gate for a day in a case. Poddar was also the former director of state-run Janata Bank and Agrani Bank.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman passed the order as police produced before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case. The defence, on the other hand, argued for his bail.
After hearing both the sides, the court asked police to interrogate at jail gate for a day.
A team of Ramna Police Station arrested Balaram Poddar from his Kakrail home on December 25 in a case filed over attempting to murder one Md Shakib during the student-led July-August mass uprising.
According to the case documents, Shakib joined the anti-discrimination student rally in the capital's Kakrail area on July 19.
Awami League cadres armed with firearms and local weapons attacked the protesters, injuring many including Shakib. He was later rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he received necessary treatment.
