Chase, counter chase between police, students at secretariat gate

Incidents of chase and counter chase took place between students from Prime Asia University and police at the main gate of the Secretariat following ‘March to Education Ministry’ programme.

The incident took place around 2:30 pm on Tuesday (January 7) when the students were protesting for a nine-point demand including the removal of Board of Trustees (BOT) and assurance of a permanent campus.

As per the prior announcement, the students came in front of the Secretariat to meet the Education Adviser. When they were trying to enter the Secretariat building, they locked into a verbal altercation with the police, resulting in the incidents of chase and counter chase.

The confrontation intensified as police used batons and fired teargas towards the students to disperse them.

Shahbagh police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khalid Mansur confirmed the development.
