Call to choose rally venue instead of blocking streets

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sajjat Ali has urged all to choose an open field or rally venue instead of occupying the streets to realize demands.

The DMP commissioner said this while speaking at the annual general meeting of Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) as the chief gust at Dhaka Club on Wednesday.

Practices of blocking streets to realize demands must be stopped to ensure the normal movement of city-dwellers,” he said.

The DMP commissioner said various organizations directly take to the streets with their demands thinking that their demands will be quickly realised by blocking roads. It is creating many problems in Mirpur, Airport and Rampura areas.

The police want to get out of the behavior of the last 15 years. It is not possible to change 40,000 policemen at the same time. Therefore, they need training. 

Stating that the DMP is working to prevent snatching and robbery incidents, he said, “The police are making all kinds of efforts to ensure the safety of the people.” 

He also called upon the people to come forward to ensure security.
