Bangladesh Rifles soldiers (BDR), dismissed and imprisoned after the 2009 BDR massacre, and their family members left the Shahbagh intersection in the capital, giving an ultimatum to the government.
They went to Central Shaheed Minar at around 3:30pm on Thursday (January 9) from Shahbagh.
Putting barricades on the roads, they started their ‘Shahbagh Blockade’ program around 1:00 pm.
Their demands include – all prisoners in the Pilkhana murder case should be released, and the dismissed soldiers should be reinstated and rehabilitated.
Former BDR member Md Ramiz Uddin said, “The army officers were killed as part of the blueprint of the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2009. At the same time, BDR members were systematically used.
The BDR members should be given bail in the explosive case. We will continue the movement until our demands are met”.
