The first case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been detected in Bangladesh.

Sources from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed the matter on Sunday (January 12).

The infected person was a female, a resident of the Bhairab area in Kishoreganj.

On Saturday (January 11), the IEDCR received a report of a person infected with HMPV. Besides, she is also infected with both the HMP virus and the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae. Her physical condition is better than before.

Tahmina Shirin, director of IEDCR said that even though the HMPV virus has spread fear again this year, two to four infected patients are found every year.

Human Metapneumovirus is not a new virus. It is found not only in China, but in many countries around the world, she added.
