Gold theft from shopping mall: Three remanded

A Dhaka court has placed three burglars on remand in connection with the theft of gold from a jewellery shop in Dhanmondi’s Shimanto Shambhar market.
Of them, Md Rubel and Safik alias Sohel were placed on two-day remand while Saddam Hossain was on one-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the remand orders on Monday (January 13) after police produced them before the court with 10-day remand.
Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three alleged burglars in connection with the theft of gold from a jewellery shop in Dhanmondi’s Shimanto Shambhar market. The arrests were made during raids in different parts of Cumilla from Thursday (January 9) to Saturday (January 11).
The detectives also recovered 50 bhori of stolen gold from them.
On January 3, members of the gang broke into the shop by cutting its shutter and stole around 159 bhori of gold within eight minutes. The shop owner filed a case with Dhanmondi police station in this regard.
