Govt to procure 15,000 MTs of sugar

The government is going to purchase 15,000 metric tons of sugar to keep market prices stable. The Ministry of Commerce will purchase the sugar through two separate local tenders based on total demand.
The sugar will be sold at subsidized prices every month to approximately one crore low-income families across the country. The total cost of this procurement will be 174.2 crore taka.
Meghna Sugar Refinery Limited will supply 10,000 metric tons of sugar and the remaining sugar will be supplied by City Sugar Industries Limited.
TCB's annual procurement plan for the 2024-2025 fiscal year has a target of purchasing 144,000 metric tons of sugar.
