Criminals taking chances of low moral in law enforcement agencies

Incidents of robbery are increasing on various roads in the capital. After the fall of Awami League government, the country's responsibility is in the hands of an interim government.

The moral of law enforcement has reached rock bottom as the previous government used them as a 'political tool'. Criminals are taking the scope of low moral in law enforcers.

The interim government took office on August 8, 2024. One of the challenges facing the new government is maintaining law and order. The latest challenge is the rise in commodity prices.

Experts opined that robbery incidents are increasing for two reasons. First, many people are getting involved in these activities due to the rising prices of goods. Second, law enforcement agencies have not yet become fully effective.

Mainul Hasan Sohel, a senior reporter of a national daily came under attack around 9:00pm on December 24. A group of muggers attacked him at Dainik Bangla intersection and snatched his mobile phone.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Motijheel Police Station told Risingbd.com, "We are not only recovering mobile phones but also working to bring the criminals under justice as soon as possible."

Similarly, a jaywalker Hafez Kamrul Hasan was trying to cross a flyover. Meanwhile, muggers tried to snatched his money and mobile phone. At one stage, the muggers stabbed him with a sharp knife.

Robbers have suddenly become more reckless in Dhaka over the past few weeks. Robbery incidents have increased in various areas of the capital, including Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, Farmgate, Mirpur, Khilgaon, Hatirjheel, Shahjahanpur, Hazaribagh, Shah Ali, and even Gulshan. There are frequent reports of serious injuries and even fatalities due to the mugging incidents.

Lt. Col Munim Ferdous, Director of RAB's Legal and Media Wing, said that RAB is taking the issue of the recent crimes including theft and robbery incidents seriously.
