Verdict on Khaleda Zia`s appeals Wednesday

The appeal hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging the verdict that enhanced the five years' imprisonment handed by the trial court to 10 years in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case ended on Tuesday. The Court will deliver its verdict on Wednesday.

The apex court full bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Tuesday (January 14) fixed the date to deliver the verdict.

Earlier on November 11, the apex court allowed two leave to appeal petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, staying the High Court order that extended her five-year jail term to 10 in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

Previously, on February 8, 2018, a lower court sentenced Khaleda Zia to 5 years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and five other defendants were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment each.
