Dismissed SIs go on hunger strike unto death before Secretariat again

Dismissed trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) of the 40th (cadet) SI batch of Bangladesh Police went on a hunger strike unto death for second consecutive day demanding reinstatement of their jobs.

Holding different placards at their hands, the protesters began the strike in front of the Secretariat yesterday (January 13) afternoon. Now they have taken position at the streets towards Osmani Udyan, opposite to secretariat gate no 1 and 2.

Md Monir Hossain, one of the dismissed SIs, told risingbd: “We went on a hunger strike unto death yesterday and the strike is still underway. We remained sleepless yesterday night to press home our demand amid severe cold. Either kill us or give back our jobs.”

We will continue the protest until our demand is met, he added.

Earlier, a total of 321 trainees were dismissed in phases, accusing them of breaching discipline during their training period just one month before graduation.
