Goat scandal: Ex-NBR member Matiur arrested

Police have arrested former member of National Board of Revenue (NBR) Matiur Rahman from the city’s Bashundhara area.

Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, told risingbd on Wednesday (January 15) morning that: “Matiur Rahman was arrested from the city’s Bashundhara area.”

However, he did not provide specific information immediately about the case in which he was arrested.

Matiur came to light after his son posted on social media a photo of a sacrificial goat worth Tk 15 lakh. The photo went viral, raising questions about the sources of his wealth.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) later launched an inquiry into the sources of his wealth and filed two graft cases against him on charges of amassing wealth illegally on December 15, 2024.
