National Identity Registration Act, 2023 cancelled 

The National Identity Registration Act, 2023 (no. 40 clause) has been cancelled to keep the NID registration process under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.

A senior officer of the Election Commission confirmed this information on Thursday.

Letters have been sent to the cabinet secretary, Chief Adviser’s principal secretary, home ministry’s senior secretary and law ministry secretary, requesting the repeal of the Act.

The previous Awami League government enacted a law in 2023 to transfer the NID registration process from the Election Commission to the Security Services Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
