Govt launches hotline service for prisoners

Prisoners will be able to talk to their relatives from now on as the government launched a hotline service on Sunday (January 26).

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the service at Dhaka Central Prison.

The hotline number is – 09612921690.

Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "Information on prisoners in 68 prisons across the country can be obtained by calling this number. Using this, the prisoner's location, appearance date, meeting date, phone conversation date, information about physical condition, and information about release on parole can be obtained. Along with this, complaints or suggestions can be made."

Of the prisoners who escaped from prison in following the July-August uprising, 700 are still hiding, he added.
