Salman F Rahman put on fresh 3-day remand

A Dhaka court granted a three-day remand for Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case filed over the killing of one Al-Amin during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the remand order on Monday (January 27) as Sub-Inspector (SI) of Jatrabari Police Station Mojahidul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, produced Salman before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Salman F Rahman was arrested from the capital’s Sadarghat area as he was attempting to flee the capital along with former law minister Anisul Huq through the waterways on August 13, 2024. He was placed on a 10-day remand in shopper Shahjahan Ali murder case the next day.

According to the case statements, police and Awami League cadres attacked agitating people during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the capital’s Jatrabari area on July 21. They fired at the protesters indiscriminately. Al-Amin got shot in the attack and died on the spot.
 
The victim’s father filed the case with the Jatrabari Police Station against 99 named accused and 100-150 unnamed others.
