Hawker Sagor killing: Ex-state minister Enamur on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court granted a six-day remand for former state minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman in a case filed over the killing of hawker Sagor in the city’s Mirpur area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam passed the order on Monday (January 27) as Sub-Inspector of Mirpur Model Thana Md Monirul Islam, also the investigating officer of the case, produced Enamur before the court and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Dr Md Enamur Rahman from the city’s Bhatara area in the early hours of Monday.

According to the case statements, Sagor joined a rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Mirpur-10 intersection area on July 19. At around 4pm, the rally came under attack by police and Awami League cadres. Sagor got shot and died on the spot.

On November 27, Sagor’s mother Beuty Akter filed the case against 242 people including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Enamur Rahman was elected unopposed from Dhaka-19 in the 10th National Parliament election in 2014. He was the State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief. He is also the founding chairman of Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar.
