A follower of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi faction of Tablighi Jamaat, who sustained injuries in a clash between the two factions at Tongi Ijtema ground on December 18 last, passed away after receiving treatment for 40 days at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Mizanur Rahman, 41, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the DMCH at around 3:30am on Tuesday (January 28).

Mizanur, a resident of Chandthana village in Fulbari upazila of Kurigram district, was the son of a freedom fighter, Shobir Uddin. He was a stationery shop owner and the father of one son and two daughters.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Ashraf Ali of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Shahbagh Police Station confirmed the matter.

It was learnt that Mizanur was an active member of the Saad faction of Tablighi Jamaat and the local leader in Fulbari.

He came to the Tongi Ijtema ground to attend the five-day congregation organized by the Saad faction.

He was injured during a clash between the two factions at the Ijtema ground on December 18 last year around 3am.

Later, his fellow members rescued him and admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
