A Dhaka court has placed former law minister Anisul Huq and former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam on different terms of remand in two separate cases filed with Mohammadpur and Badda Police Stations respectively.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam passed the orders on Wednesday (January 29) as police produced them before the court and pleaded to place Anisul on five-day and Atiqul on 10-day remand respectively in the two cases.
Of the two, Anisul was placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over the attempt to kill rickshaw-van puller Insan Ali in Mohammadpur area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. On the other hand, Atiqul was placed on a four-day remand in the case filed for killing Sohagh Miah in Badda area.
Public prosecutor Omor Faruk Faruki moved for the state during the hearing in the court.
According to the case statements, Insan Ali was going through Mohammadpur Bus Stand area on his rickshaw-van on July 19, when he got shot. He was rushed to nearby hospital, where he took treatment. His mother on November 13 filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station against 266 people.
Sohagh Miah was also got shot and killed on July 19 in front of the Badda Fuji Tower. His mother filed the case against 179 people including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
