A Dhaka court convicted and sentenced former Khulna-2 lawmaker Mizanur Rahman to eight years of imprisonment in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Judge Md Abu Taher of Dhaka Special Judge Court-3 delivered the verdict on Thursday (January 30).

“The court sentenced him three-year jail and fined him Tk 20,000 under section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, and another five-year jail and fined Tk 30,000 under section 27(1) of the same act. The two sentences of jail, however, will run concurrently,” ACC prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam said.

In favor of the state, the court also ordered to confiscate Tk 1,44,50,989, which was amassed illegally.

ACC director Md Manjur Morshed filed the case on August 6, 2019, for amassing illegal wealth of Tk 1.58 crore and concealing information about wealth of Tk 20 lakh. The ACC on August 23, 2021, filed charge sheet in the case.
