Ex-minister Qamrul now shown arrested in graft case

A Dhaka court has now granted an application to show former food minister Qamrul Islam arrested in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for allegedly acquiring wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Acting Judge Sheikh Samidul Islam of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court passed the order after a hearing on Tuesday (February 11).
On February 5, ACC assistant director SM Rashedul Hasan submitted a petition to show Qamrul arrested in the case.
According to the case statement, Qamrul is accused of owning assets worth Tk 6,29,19,195 beyond his known sources of income and being involved in money laundering with suspicious transactions totalling Tk 21,18,15,465 through 15 bank accounts.
Police arrested Qamrul, a former Awami league lawmaker from Dhaka-2, from the capital’s Uttara on November 18.
