Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has directed to file cases against the CNG drivers if one charges fare higher than the meter.
CNG drivers will have to give Tk 50,000 fine for charging fare higher than meter.
A letter signed by BRTA Director (Engineering) Shitangshu Shekhor Biswas was sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner on Tuesday.
According to the letter, in cases where CNGs charge more than the government-set meter fare, a case will be filed as per the BRTA directives.
As per the Road Transport Act, 2018, contract carriage owners or drivers must transport passengers to any destination within the permitted route area and cannot demand or collect fares beyond the meter reading.
Violation of this will result in punishment under Section 81 of the law, which could include up to six months imprisonment, a fine of up to Tk50,000, or both, as well as one point deduction from the driver's license.
