Govt to provide loans to Imams, Muazzins

The government will provide interest-free loans of Tk 1.80 crore to 600 insolvent and poor Imams and Muazzins in the current fiscal year. The loans will be provided under the Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust. 

In addition, the religious affairs ministry will provide Tk 5,000 to 4,620 helpless and poor Imams and Muazzins as financial assistance.  The ministry has allocated Tk 2.31 crore for this purpose.

The ministry informed this on Wednesday (February 19).

Currently, the trust has approximately 84,000 registered members, working diligently to ensure the financial security and dignity of these vital community leaders.

Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain announced that work is being done to develop a mosque management policy and plans are in place to introduce a pay scale for Imams and Muazzins.

Established in 2001, the Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust aims to enhance the socio-economic conditions of Bangladesh’s mosque imams and muazzins. Its primary objectives include: providing financial assistance and loans in cases of severe accidents, disabilities, incurable diseases, or sudden deaths. Supporting the education of meritorious children of imams and muezzins. Promoting the overall welfare of their families.
