No load shedding in Ramadan, summer: Adviser

Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has claimed that there will be no load shedding during in Ramadan and summer season in the country.

The adviser came up with claim at a seminar on renewable power generation organized at the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) building at Uttara in the capital on Saturday (February 22) afternoon.

The adviser said, “The AC temperature cannot be lowered below 25 degrees. Why do we have to wear a suit in the heat? We have to get out of the tendency to keep the AC temperature low while wearing a suit.”

The Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) has become a failed institution, the adviser said, commenting, “Its people are busy sitting in Dhaka holding meetings and seminars instead of working.”

He said, "Those who want new gas lines in the future will have to pay extra. The government cannot buy gas at 70 taka and give it at a lower price."

Despite massive pressure from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the government has not increased electricity prices in the last six months, Fauzul Kabir Khan said, adding, "The government pays 42,000 crore taka in subsidies to the power and energy sectors. Consumers pay the government Tk 8.90 for each unit of electricity, while the government buys it for Tk 12.”
