Businessman shot and ‘200-bhori gold’ robbed in Banasree

Robbers shot a businessman and then snatched ‘200-bhori gold’ ornaments and Tk 1 lakh in cash in the capital’s Rampura yesterday.

The incident took place around 10:30pm on Road 7, Block D in Banasree.

The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, a jewellery shop owner.

According to police and the trader’s relatives, Anwar came under attack when he was returning home after closing shop. Robbers on several motorcycles obstructed him on his way and tried to snatch his bag leading to a scuffle.

At one stage, when he resisted, one of the robbers shot Anwar and fled with ‘200-bhori gold’ ornaments and Tk 1 lakh in cash.

On information, local people rushed to the spot and took him to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Confirming the incident, Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said a man from Banasree with bullet injuries came to the hospital. He is being treated in the emergency department.

Rampura police have been informed about the incident, he added.
