All processions to move towards Manik Mia Avenue

Students Against Discrimination has finalized their party name as the Jatiya Nagorik Party (National Citizens Party-NCP).

The name of the new party will be announced formally through a gathering at 3:00pm on February 28 at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. 

The organizers have announced a big gathering. Processions will come across the country with banners and gather at Manik Mia Avenue. About three lakh people will attend the rally.

All advisers, including the interim government's Chief Advisor Prof. Muhammad Yunus, have been invited. In addition, almost all parties supporting the mass uprising, including BNP-Jamaat, have been invited. 

Invitations have been sent to senior leaders including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats of 51 countries stationed in Dhaka have been invited.

Besides, people from different classes and professions, including teachers, social and cultural activists, representatives of various rights bodies and activists of the social media platforms have been requested to join the programme.

Leaders of 36 political parties have been invited but no one of 14-party alliance invited.  

According to sources, Nahid Islam, a key organiser of the anti-discrimination student movement and a former adviser to the interim government, may be convener of the new party. Akhter Hossain may be member secretary. 

Nasiruddin Patwari will be the chief coordinator, Sarjis Alam chief organizer for the northern region and  Hasnat Abdulla chief organizer for the southern region. Shamanta Sharmin will be joint member secretary.

The new committee will work until the next general election.
