Launching ceremony of new party begins

The launching ceremony of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (National Citizens Party-NCP) began at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Friday (February 28) afternoon.
The event began at around 4:15 pm. From noon, students and people started to throng Manik Mia Avenue.
A festive mood has been prevailing in the area.
Earlier, 10 key posts of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (National Citizens Party-NCP) were finalized.
Md Nahid Islam, a key organiser of the anti-discrimination student movement and a former adviser to the interim government, has been finalized as the convener of the new party. Akhter Hossain has been made member secretary.
Shamanta Sharmin and Ariful Islam Adib have been made senior joint convener. Tasnim Jara and Nahida Sarwar Niba have been made senior joint member secretary.
Nasiruddin Patwari will be the chief coordinator, Sarjis Alam chief organizer for the northern region and Hasnat Abdulla chief organizer for the southern region.
The new committee will work until the next general election.
The new party will be announced formally through a gathering today at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital.
All advisers, including the interim government's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, have been invited. In addition, almost all parties supporting the mass uprising, including BNP-Jamaat, have been invited.
Ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats of 51 countries stationed in Dhaka have been invited.
