A Dhaka court ordered to freeze 44 bank accounts of former industries minister and veteran Awami League leader Amir Hossain Amu, his wife Saida Haque and daughter Sumaia Hossain over graft allegations.
Dhaka Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Sunday (March 2), allowing a plea filed by Abul Kalam Azad, assistant director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC in its plea said the anti-graft body is probing allegations of amassing huge illegal wealth by Amu and his family members by tender manipulation, appointment manipulation and embezzling funds of different government projects.
The investigation is underway and it was learned that the accused are planning to withdraw ill-gotten money from their accounts and transfer the fund, it added.
The ACC pleaded to freeze the accounts for the sake of proper investigation.
