“AL`s political fate must be decided through the judicial process”

Nahid Islam, convener of the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP) and former adviser to the interim government said that we want to see the swift execution of trials for the mass killings committed during the July uprising. Awami League's political fate must be decided through the judicial process.

The NCP leader said this while addressing reporters after paying tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar on Tuesday morning (March 4).

He said that our promise in the July mass uprising was that those involved in this murder and those who have committed various atrocities in the last 15 years should be tried. There will be a call to the interim government, the people of Bangladesh want to see this trial as soon as possible.

Nahid also said that despite achieving independence through the 1971 war, the country's sovereignty has repeatedly come under threat.

"Our democratic institutions have collapsed time and again. We have failed to establish a truly democratic constitution. The seeds of fascism and one-party autocracy were sown through a unitary constitution," he said.
