5% quota for uprising victims’ children in schools canceled

The Ministry of Education has canceled its earlier order allocating a 5% quota for the children of those injured or killed during the July uprising in government schools amid controversy.

Ministry of Education's Secondary and Higher Education Division issued an order in this regard on Monday, revoking the order on February 20 regarding the admission of children in public schools from the families of those injured or killed in the July-August uprising.

Instead, the ministry has asked all public schools to keep one seat reserved for admission in every class for the children of July victims’ families in the 2025 academic session.

The new order said, “In addition to the seats allocated for admission in government secondary schools through lottery for the family members of those injured or martyred in the July Uprising-2024, one seat should be kept reserved for admission for their family members in every class.”

To determine the seats for family members of the injured or martyred persons of July Uprising-2024, a certified copy of the relevant documents or gazette must be attached to the application form and the original copy must be shown at the time of admission.

The admission process should be completed after proper verification of the documents and gazette of the martyrs of the July Uprising-2024 issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

If the family members of the injured or martyred in the July Uprising-2024 are not found, the seat will be filled up from the merit list. Under no circumstances no seat will remain vacant, it said.
